blog design
So what is a blog anyway?
A blog is a kind of online journal that has entries which are written up by the blog administrator. You can post an entry as often as you like. They can be categorized and tagged so that users can sort them out by category or keywords within the text.
The great thing about blogs is that you can have the latest news on products, promotions or events up online as fast as you can type! Other advantages are that online users can leave comments on your entries and they can also subscribe to receive any new entries on their email box.
Do I need a blog, a website or both?
That really depends on what your company needs. If you just need to have an informational site that doesn't require updates on a regular basis, then you probably don't need a blog. But, if you have products specials, promotional events, news or simply want to have more interaction with your clients, then a blog is definitely for you.
A blog can be part of a website, designed seamlessly so that the user doesn't even notice the transition. Users can click to it from the main navigation buttons so see the latest news.
A blog can also be a website in itself, if you point your domain directly to your blog, making it your landing page. Wordpress blogs allow you to have static pages similar to what you would have on a website, but all must have the exact same layout design.
If you are not sure if need a blog or website or both, we can setup a meeting to help you figure it out!
WordPress Blogs
BlackStone Studio works with WordPress blogs. There are two types of WordPress blogs, one is offered by WordPress.com and the other by WordPress.org. Find out the some of the main differences below:
WordPress.com |
WordPress.org |
|
Cost |
Free if you use a template and don't want to customize the design. if you want to upgrade your account to be able to customize some of the design or get added storage space, you need to pay yearly fees. These fees are actually very affordable. BlackStone Studio is not responsible for paying such fees. |
Free, but you need to have your own hosting and learn how to install it. BlackStone Studio offers you the hosting and would install and set it up for you. |
Design |
If you upgrade your account, you are able to modify the CSS file. This allows for limited customized design, as it does not give you access to the rest of the source files. BlackStone studio can customize the header, the fonts, the colors, the links, etc. to look similar to your website, but cannot guarantee a seamless design using this type of blog. |
This type of blog gives you access to all source files. BlackStone Studio can customize an existing WordPress template so that it is seamless in design to your website. |
Plugins |
It offers some features like WordPress Stats and Askimet for Spam protection, but you cannot add more than what they already offer. |
You can install any plugins that you like. BlackStone Studio can help you do this at setup. By default, I install Wordpress Stats, Google Stats and Askimet Spam Protection.
|
In conclusion, WordPress.com might be more affordable, but you can customize much less. WordPress.com can cost more because you have to pay for hosting, but you can customize anything you want.
