Embracing AI in Graphic Design

Like many of you, I recently used ChatGPT to turn myself into a cartoon in seconds—and honestly, the results are very cool! While much of the conversation online focuses on AI models being trained on artists’ styles, for graphic designers, the question feels a little different: are our skills at risk of being replaced?

Design has never been about doing everything manually. It’s about solving problems, communicating ideas, and adapting to the tools that help us do that better. Tools evolve. Our jobs? They evolve too. When Photoshop introduced the content-aware tool years ago, designers didn’t become obsolete—we just stopped spending hours cloning out unwanted elements or filling in missing parts of an image. Right now, the biggest new tool is AI. That’s why I’ve been leaning into it, learning as I go, and incorporating AI into my workflow.
