*What do reasonable rounds of revisions mean?

I don’t limit the rounds of revisions because I feel that puts pressure on both of us. If we go over 3 rounds of revisions while doing minor tweaks to finalize the design, that’s reasonable. If, after 3-4 rounds of changes, we are not getting any closer to a final design. Or if you suddenly decide you want to start over or want something completely different. That would be regarded as unreasonable and out of the scope of the project.

Are you looking for help with other types of design pieces?

The list of collateral items listed above is just a few of the most popular pieces that I’m asked to design for small businesses. However, I can also help with other types of projects, such as invitations, speaker sheets, labels, social graphics, PDF downloads, certificates, menus, and more! Just tell me about what you’re looking for, and I’ll be happy to help!

The list of design services above does not include printing. However, I can provide you with high-quality print files, which you can use with your preferred print vendor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect?

We’ll start with a discovery call where you tell me about the vision and ideas for the piece. Depending on the project, I may ask that you send me some of your current marketing pieces to see what you like or dislike about them. I may also ask you to send me inspiration samples of other artwork you like. It doesn’t matter if they’re from your industry or not – it just helps me get a more visual understanding of what you’re looking for in terms of style.

Then I design 1-2 design options using different concepts. You may choose one as is, or we can make a reasonable amount of revisions on one (or mix and match ideas from both) until we get to a design you like.

Once the final design is approved and the balance is paid, I prepare the final files and email them to you to keep.

How long does everything take?

The first proof takes me about 3-7 business days to create, depending on the type of project. After that, the following proofs will depend on how fast I get feedback from you, how many changes you request, and the complexity of those changes.  Usually, new proofs take 1-3 days. On average, an individual graphic design project is completed in about 1-2 weeks.

Do you release the source/development files?

No, you will receive the final project files in a high-resolution, non-editable format, such as a rasterized (flat) PDF or JPG. I will not release any source or development files, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign, or any electronic files used to create the project.

If you require the source files, I may agree to release them for specific projects. However, this needs to be decided and agreed upon before the start of the project, as it will impact the design process and increase the project’s overall cost.

What if I don’t like the design?

You are involved in every step of the project, so the final design will not be a surprise. However, if for some reason you don’t like anything in the first proof I send you, that would be a sign that we might not be a good fit and we can decide to cut our losses there. That means I would keep the deposit to cover the work done up to that point, and you wouldn’t owe any other balance, but you also wouldn’t own any files created.

Do you create all the artwork from scratch?

No, I sometimes use third-party non-branding stock graphics licensed to BlackStone Studio that allows me to put together your design project faster. These can include stock vector graphics, photos, icons, textures, and effects.

Can you change or tweak my existing design?

Possibly. I’d need to know what file formats you have your current design in. A vector file is preferable. If you only have a JPG, I’d have to recreate the entire design from scratch before I can modify it. I’d also need to know what type of changes you’d want me to make to it before I could take on the project.

Can you copy the design from something I found online?

No. While I’ll ask you to send me samples of artwork you like, those are solely for me to get visual insight into the design style, colors, and fonts you like. We can draw inspiration from the work of others, but I will not knowingly copy or plagiarize anyone else’s design work..
