*What do reasonable rounds of revisions mean?
I don’t limit the rounds of revisions because I feel that puts pressure on both of us. If we go over 3 rounds of revisions while doing minor tweaks to finalize the design, that’s reasonable. If, after 3-4 rounds of changes, we are not getting any closer to a final design. Or if you suddenly decide you want to start over or want something completely different. That would be regarded as unreasonable and out of the scope of the project.
Are you looking for help with other types of design pieces?
The list of collateral items listed above is just a few of the most popular pieces that I’m asked to design for small businesses. However, I can also help with other types of projects, such as invitations, speaker sheets, labels, social graphics, PDF downloads, certificates, menus, and more! Just tell me about what you’re looking for, and I’ll be happy to help!
The list of design services above does not include printing. However, I offer digital printing services. Please browse my printing services page for more information.
Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect?
The design process starts with a discovery session where you tell me about the vision, ideas, and color preferences you have. In some cases, I’ll ask that you email me samples of artwork you like (whether they are in the same industry or not.) This is so I can get a more visual understanding of what you’re looking for in terms of style.
Then I design 1-2 design options using different concepts. You may choose one as is, or we can make a reasonable amount of revisions on one (or mix and match ideas from both) until we get to a design you like.
Once the final design is approved and the balance is paid, I prepare the final files and email them to you to keep.
How long does everything take?
The first proof takes me about a week to create, and after that, it depends on how fast I get feedback from you and how many changes you request. Usually, the following proofs take 1-2 days, but sometimes if they are minor tweaks, I’ll have the next proof the same day you send me the feedback. On average, a design project is completed in about 1-2 weeks.
Do you release the source/development files?
No, you will receive the final project files in a high-resolution non-editable format, such as a rasterized (flat) PDF or JPG. I will not release any source or development files such as Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign.
What if I don’t like the design?
You are involved in every step of the project, so the final design will not be a surprise. However, if for some reason you don’t like anything in the first proof I send you, that would be a sign that we might not be a good fit and we can decide to cut our losses there. That means I would keep the deposit to cover the work done up to that point, and you wouldn’t owe any other balance, but you also wouldn’t own any files created.
Do you create all the artwork from scratch?
No, I sometimes use third-party resources licensed to BlackStone Studio that allows me to put together your design project faster. These non-branding elements can include vector graphics, photos, icons, textures, and effects.
Can you change or tweak my existing design?
Possibly. I’d need to know what file formats you have your current design in. A vector file is preferable. If you only have a JPG, I’d have to recreate the entire design from scratch before I can modify it. I’d also need to know what type of changes you’d want me to make to it before I could take on the project.
Can you copy the design from something I found online?
No, sorry. While I’ll ask you to send me samples of artwork you like, those are solely for me to get a better visual insight into the design style, colors, and fonts you like. We can draw inspiration from the work of others, but I will not copy or plagiarize anyone’s design.
