Graphic Designer vs. Copywriter

Nov 8, 2022 | Behind The Scenes

It isn’t uncommon for people to assume that a graphic designer will also write the content for their projects. I usually make suggestions on what information to include in a piece. I can also edit the client’s wording to fit the layout better. But I don’t offer copywriting services. I only tweak your content if necessary. The changes I make can include: breaking it up to highlight certain parts, grammar corrections, removing or replacing repetitive words, or editing it down when we have space limitations. Copywriters and graphic designers work towards the same goal, to transmit a message or persuade towards a call to action. While these roles complement each other, they are two separate skill sets. I always like to be transparent about my abilities when working with new clients. So, I’m curious as to what you think. Would you expect your graphic designer to also write the text for your project?
